We use Picker Pals in our local community
We have started the 'Picker Pals' adventures in the junior room. We are really enjoying the programme at the moment. By being a 'Picker Pal' we are making the world better. We looked at the video together at school from the 'Picker Pals World' website (pickerpalsworld.org). Picker Pals is an environmental programme for primary children and their families. Picker Pals motivates children through a fun song and story world, inspiring them on to local litter-picking adventures.
Litter Picker
We have litter pickers located at the front of the school which we use every week. We have noticed that Friday's are particularly full of litter. We have decided on a 5 minute, drop everything and litter pick.
Classroom Bins
One of the things we have implemented is three bins in our classrooms and staffroom: a general waste, recycling and compost bin. It is a great way to organise our litter.
Scrap Paper
Something we do in both classrooms is collect scrap paper, to make use of paper not used.
Recyclable Lunchboxes
In our school and classroom we are using re-useable lunchboxes and bottles. More of us are using them than before we started the Green Flag.
Our Christmas Shoebox Appeal
As a whole school and with the help of the Parents Association our school came together to do the 'Christmas Shoebox Appeal'. Every child brought in shoeboxes from home and wrapping paper. This meant we were reusing items from home. We were involving the whole school community in recycling and reusing materials.
